Eufy Robovac

The Eufy RoboVac 11 is one of the latest low-cost robot vacuums to hit the market.

It’s also an excellent single-room cleaner, as long as you don’t have stairs or deep pile shag to worry about.

Though it does not connect to WiFi, it cleans very well and comes with a remote control.

This vacuum is thinner (lower profile) than most other robot vacuums, allowing it to get into the tightest of spots. This ensures that dust and debris have nowhere to accumulate.

The robot uses a 3-stage cleaning system, obstacle and drop avoidance sensors and a HEPA filter to navigate and clean the floor.

The EufyRoboVac 11 is ideal for hardwood floors, tiled floors, and thin carpets, but not for deep-pile carpets and shags. It also struggles to stay off of stairs or in a room, unless access is physically blocked.

Overall Impression

It’s a bit of a risk buying a lower-priced robot vacuum. You can buy something that just goes around bumping into furniture, without doing any actual cleaning.

Despite its price, the Eufy RoboVac 11 is an impressive cleaning machine. It has the intelligence to navigate around the house without running into walls, and with its extra low profile, it quickly goes under tight spaces that you operating an upright vacuum wouldn’t have a chance of reaching.

It’s also really quiet.  You can run it at night without even disturbing someone sleeping in the same room. If you have pets that are afraid of vacuuming noises, then definitely get the RoboVac 11.

Of course, the RoboVac 11 doesn’t have the same advanced features as in the higher priced Roomba models.

The Eufy Robovac’s closest comparison is the Roomba 690. They are both budget, single-room robotic vacuums with plenty of reliable cleaning power.

Cleaning Ability

Eufy Robovac Review

The Eufy RoboVac 11 uses an infrared sensor and an anti-drop sensor to navigate around the floor. It moves in a straight line until it senses an obstacle or a steep drop such as stairs. It then turns in another direction.

Granted, this is not as impressive as the mapping sensors and navigation algorithms on some Roomba models, but it still gets the job done.

The RoboVac 11 has several cleaning modes:

  • Auto-cleaning –the robot calculates the size of the room and automatically selects the right cleaning modes for the room. Press the power button on the vacuum or Auto on the remote control.
  • Spot cleaning –the vacuum focuses on a specific sport, moving in a spiral pattern until the area is clean. This is ideal if there is a lot of dirt or debris on the part of the floor.
  • Edge cleaning –as the vacuum approaches a wall, it lowers its speed and then moves apparel to the wall as it cleans the edge.
  • Max cleaning –this adds a power boost to the vacuum’s suction. Switch to this mode when you are cleaning a carpeted area.
  • Single room cleaning –use this mode if you just want to clean one room and remember to close the door to restrict the vacuum to that room. (RoboVac 11 doesn’t come with virtual wall beacons)
  • Manual cleaning –this is for when you want control over the cleaning process. Use the navigation buttons on the remote to control the robot’s navigation.

A 3-point system ensures that every bit of debris is collected. Four side brushes clean corners and edges. A rolling brush cleans most of the floor as the vacuum moves and a powerful suction vacuums up the collected debris and dust.

Triple filters, including a HEPA filter, efficiently trap dust, dust mites, pet hair and mold spores for a cleaner healthier home.

Navigation

Eufy Robovac Vs Roomba

Comparing Eufy Robovac vs Roomba vacuums on navigation, most Roomba models are much more advanced.

But the RoboVac is still an excellent buy for those who are looking for a low-priced robot vacuum that cleans well.

The RoboVac 11 uses infrared and drop-sensing sensors to navigate safely and efficiently. The infrared sensor tells the robot when there is an obstacle ahead. It then changes direction or goes around it.

When it approaches stairs or a steep drop, the vacuum will immediately stop and turn around. This drop-sensing technology can cause problems when you are cleaning dark floors or a dark carpet. The sensor mistakes it for a drop and stops the vacuum.

The RoboVac 11 has not yet perfected autonomous navigation, however. So you may have to give it a hand from time to time.

Before you start the unit, make sure you clear the floor of toys, boxes, bags, clothes, and cords. These could easily get the robot stuck, and you’ll have to rescue it manually.

That said, it can easily navigate around furniture and appliances.

If you don’t want it to go into a specific area, close the door or use a physical barrier. The vacuum does not come with a virtual wall beacon.

To be safe, don’t use it near steep drops or the stairs, either. If possible, block the stairs when it’s cleaning.

When the battery goes low, the RoboVac 11 shuts down and silently navigates back to the charging station. This feature does not always work, unfortunately.

Automation and Scheduling

Using the remote, you can set the robot vacuum to clean for a specific amount of time. Press the clock button on the remote (while pointing it directly at the vacuum), and the screen will bring up a timer. Use the navigation arrows to set the cleaning time. The vacuum beeps once to confirm the setting.

You can also set the robot vacuum to start cleaning automatically at a specific time even when you are not around. Press the schedule button on the remote control (while pointing it directly at the vacuum) and the screen will bring up a timer. Set the start time using the arrow buttons. You should hear a single beep from the vacuum to confirm the setting.

Unlike most Roomba vacuums, you cannot schedule the vacuum to clean on a certain day. You can only schedule it for a certain time of the day. So if you go to the office every day, you have to set the timer every morning before you go. It’s a bit inconvenient but acceptable for the price.

Setup

Install the charging base first, making sure there is no obstacle within 3 feet of the left and right side of the station and 6 feet in front of it. Don’t place it on a dark floor or rug as this could confuse the vacuum’s sensors and hamper the auto-charge feature. Charge the robot vacuum fully before you start using it.

The robot will navigate back to the base on its own when the battery runs low. You can also use the remote to return it to the docking station or take it there yourself and plug it in.

A full charge takes around 6 hours and provides 100 minutes run time. If the vacuum is flashing red, it’s low on battery. Blue indicates it’s charging. Solid blue means fully charged.

The setup is pretty simple and straightforward. Because the vacuum does not connect to WiFi, there is no router, app or voice assistant to connect to. This is a big plus for those who just want something simple that can start using immediately without much hassle.

There is a Eufy RoboVac manual to guide you through the setup. It includes a troubleshooting guide in case the vacuum runs into trouble or behaves abnormally.

What it Misses

The feature that many customers will probably miss most is the virtual wall. It’s not always that you can close a door to restrict the RoboVac to a specific room. Sometimes you want to keep it away from the pet feeding area, or the children play area with toys strewn on the floor.

It’s tedious to use a physical barrier, which the robot might even go around.

Another major feature missing is a weekly schedule. You can only set an hourly schedule. So you have to do it every morning. With the Roomba models, including the low-cost Roomba 690, you can easily set the robot to clean on specific days and times.

There are many other features and capabilities you cannot get at this price point. The navigation is good but can be problematic at times. The robot does not connect to WiFi hence cannot be controlled remotely and can it be connected to voice assistants. Additionally, the self-charging feature tends to fail often.

But the RoboVac excels where it matters most – cleaning. Most users say it’s just as good as an upright vacuum cleaner. So while you do not get fancy high-tech features, you get an affordable, time-saving, effort-saving and a thorough robotic vacuum cleaner.

Maintenance

Eufy Robovac 11

Like other robot vacuum cleaners, maintaining the RoboVac takes some work. Different forms of maintenance should be performed on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

For the daily maintenance, empty the dustbin and clean the filters after every cleaning. This keeps the robot’s performance at maximum capacity. A dirty bin and clogged filters reduce its ability to pick up dirt.

For the weekly maintenance, check and clean various components including the sensors, charging pins, brushes, and wheels. Use a dry cloth for the sensors and charging pins. Use the manual to help you disassemble the vacuum and clean the interior properly.

Every few months check the state of the filters and brushes and if need be, replace them.
